About the event
Most people buy a camera, shoot in auto, and never touch the dial again. This class is where that changes. Over four hands-on hours, photographer Jaren Collins walks you through the fundamentals that every working photographer relies on — and gets a camera in your hands so you leave having actually used them.
We start with the exposure triangle: aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, and how the three trade off against each other. From there we move into focus modes, white balance, metering, and file formats, then into composition — framing, leading lines, negative space, and the small adjustments that separate a snapshot from a photograph. The final stretch of the evening is shooting time, with feedback on your images as you go.
Bring whatever camera you own. A DSLR or mirrorless body will let you follow along most closely, but phone shooters are genuinely welcome and will leave with…
